The 2017 Gentleman Farmer Napa Valley Red Wine is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, both from the cooler Oak Knoll District.
The initial impression is concentrated aromas of fermented blackberry, pie cherries, and cracked black pepper.
The palate is lush with ripe, dark fruit notes of Japanese black plums and a glow of sour cherry and hibiscus tea. The tannin structure is soft, velvety, and supple. The finish is long with exotic hints of tamarind, blackstrap molasses, and rum raisin.
The wine is ready to drink now. Time in cellar will only add to the complexity and evolution of tertiary aromas and bouquet. This wine will cellar 10 to 12 years.
