The 2015 Gentleman Farmer Napa Valley Red Wine is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, blended with Cabernet Franc from the warmer St. Helena appellation.
The first impression is concentrated aromas of black cherry fruit and develops with blackberry, plum, and sassafras. Cocoa nibs and Kahlúa weave with aromatic Emperor Norton pipe tobacco and spices to dominate the mid-palate. There is a mix of toffee, and caramel that mingle with a mineral note of crushed stone.
The tannin structure is soft, velvety, and supple. The finish is long with spice, cola, and cherry.
At its core, the wine is a blend of fresh red cherries, blackberries, raspberries, and little French red groseilles. Seasoned with spice and vanilla notes, the wine has hints of cola, toffee, and licorice. These orbit the fruit like a cloud of finely spun brown sugar. Green peppercorn and savory herb keep the wine firmly rooted in the dry-farmed earth.
It is richly textured with soft tannins.
The wine is ready to drink now. Time in cellar will only add to the complexity of the aromas and bouquet. This wine will cellar 10 to 12 years.
