Almanac is a blend of our finest wines of a vintage, set aside to spend extra time in toasted French oak barrels.
The 2016 Almanac is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon from the Red Hen Vineyard and Merlot from the Boyd Vineyard, both in the cooler Napa Valley appellation of The Oak Knoll District.
From the Cabernet Sauvignon dominant core, the 2016 Almanac delivers dark, black fruit of cassis, fresh Bing cherries, and black plum. The supporting role of Merlot shows high notes of red and sour cherries. The fruit is supported with secondary aromas of winter savory, black pepper, anise, black tea, and juniper. Vanilla bean makes an entrance thanks to the French oak barrels. There is a hushed earthiness to this wine that is a nice foil to the Napa fruit.
The tannic structure is evident and soft, bringing an elegantly light grip on the palate.
We release the wines when they are ready to drink and this wine is drinking well in its youth. The complexity, tannic structure, and gastronomic friendly acidity give rise to further tertiary development over time. This wine will cellar 20 years.
